Associate Professor Avra Sidiropoulou, Director of the Postgraduate Programme «Theatre Studies» of the Open University of Cyprus, participates in the annual international conference organized by the European Association for the Study of Theatre and Performance (EASTAP), hosted by the Institute of the Arts Barcelona, from 30 October 2024 to 2 November 2024. The title of her lecture is: «The Precocious Eco-ethics of Greek Tragedy. Natural Landscape, Growth and Moral Order».
The paper that Dr Sidiropoulou will present examines how the depiction of the landscape by Greek tragic poets and the tragic heroes’ relationship to it reflects moral progress or anarchy on an individual and civic level. She considers Sophocles’ «Oedipus Rex», and «Oedipus at Colonus», and Euripides’ «The Bacchae».
