Ante Portas

2005

This production, which has been dramaturgically worked by Avra Sidiropoulou, is based on three “metaphysical” one-act plays written at the beginnings of the 20th century and posing timeless questions to today’s audiences. It was staged at Dipylon Theatre in March-April 2005, sponsored by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture.

Within August Strindberg’s Coram Populo intervene excerpts from Madame Rachilde’s The Crystal Spider and Russian Symbolist poet Valery Briusov’s The Wayfarer. The texts’ real and metaphysical sides are in constant dialogue. In all three texts, what defines the protagonists’ lives is an element of transcendence, that which the characters grasp experientially, but ultimately fail to see.
